Tips for a Healthy Summer Smile

Keep your teeth looking their best this season with a few quick tips. Here’s how to keep your teeth shining bright all summer long.

Drink Water

Staying hydrated is important, particularly when temperatures soar. Besides keeping you safe in the sun, drinking plenty of water is good for your skin, teeth and body. Choosing water without added carbonation or flavouring is your best bet for good dental health and strong tooth enamel. Drink H2O to beat the heat this summer.

Avoid Sugary Beverages

Quenching your thirst may top your list, but don’t let the sugary beverages do you in. Soda, juice and sports drinks are as sugary as they are acidic, which is double the trouble for your sparkling smile. Avoid tooth decay and enamel erosion by going easy on sweet drinks more often than not. At the end of the day, a healthy smile is worth a little sacrifice!

Mind the Pool

Summer isn’t the same without a dip in the pool, but did you know that chlorine can damage tooth enamel? Like other chemicals, chlorine found in a pool is strong enough to potentially damage the tooth’s surface and even leave stains. If possible, choose options with lower levels of chlorine or swap the pool for the beach.

Maintain Good Habits

Brushing and flossing regularly is the first rule of good dental health. While summer has a lot to offer, don’t forget to put a few minutes aside every day for regular dental care. Summer treats like candy, ice cream and other sticky snacks lead to faster rates of tooth decay. Do yourself a favour by brushing often and drinking plenty of water for healthy teeth and a gorgeous smile.

Don't forget to keep up with your dental habits

Sports Protection

If you’re like many other Australians, sports or other physical activity may be part of your summer agenda. Be sure to protect your smile by wearing a mouthguard for contact sports like football or rugby. A small investment and a moment of your time go a long way towards protecting your teeth.
