Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a highly sought-after aesthetic procedure that is renowned for boosting confidence and improving appearance. If you’re considering laser hair removal at CAID, here are some of the facts you need to know.
WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
Laser hair removal, as its name suggests, uses a laser to remove unwanted hair on different parts of the body. The laser targets the pigment in each individual hair, and the laser light is converted into heat. This heat damages the hair follicles, reducing their ability to produce new hairs in the future.
Laser hair removal can be used on a wide variety of areas of the face and body, including:
- Upper lip
- Bikini line
Depending on the size of the area you are having treated, your session could take as little as a few minutes or as long as an hour.
HOW LONG DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL LAST?
Laser hair removal is sometimes advertised as permanent, but there are no guarantees of this. It can last months or even years, but your hair may grow back eventually. The hairs on the area you have had treated will usually start to fall out within a few days of your session. If it grows back, it will take a lot longer to grow than usual, and will often be lighter in colour and finer than your normal hair. This makes regrowth a lot less noticeable.
HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED TO HAVE?
To produce the best results, you are likely to need more than one session. Most patients require between two and six sessions to achieve anything like permanent hair removal. Your specialist will advise you on the number of sessions you will need when you come for your consultation. However, even if you have had
your full course of treatments, you might possibly need more sessions a few years into the future, as your hair follicles might not be damaged permanently.
IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL SAFE FOR EVERYONE?
Laser hair removal is safe as long as it is administered by a highly experienced professional. However, it is not safe for use around the eye area or on tattooed skin. Most people will experience some redness or swelling immediately after their treatment, but this usually fades within a few hours.
You should also be aware that results differ from person to person. Laser hair removal works best on people with light skin and dark hair, as the laser can target the pigment in the hairs more effectively. If you have dark skin, there is an increased risk of your skin lightening temporarily or even permanently around the treated area.
